Jamie's Thrive Grant

"Cultivating Whole Well-Being Through Equity"

Overland HS teacher, Jamie Logan applied for grant last year to support all of her students to thrive. As a teacher to newcomer students who recently arrived in the United States, Jamie's application focused on cultivating whole well-being and belonging, so her students are able to show up as their true, authentic selves.

Part of this initiative was done through a cultural recipe celebration: each student brought a dish from home, presented its story in English, and shared how it feels to eat it and what it recalls from home. The grant covered the materials that made the event possible. It was, in Jamie's words, "remarkable," and they plan to make it an annual celebration.

The same grant also funded a second project where newcomer students partnered with third graders at Ponderosa Elementary for African American Read In, reading Your Name Is a Song aloud together after weeks of practice. The grant covered the book and rented Polaroid cameras, so each pair could tape a photo of themselves inside the book alongside a handwritten message from the older student.

That's what a Thrive Grant does. Even with a new name, the grant works exactly as it always has. It allows every educator with a high-impact innovation idea to have access to funding and support to bring it to life. Thank you for doing your part to support all to thrive!
